This Vegan Honey Mustard uses agave syrup in place of the honey and can be used as a dipping sauce or salad dressing. This recipe is super easy to prepare: you just need 4 ingredients and 2 minutes to whip up sweet and tangy dressing!
I initially created this recipe as a compliment to my Chick-fil-A Style Tofu Nuggets, but I also realized that it would taste great as a salad dressing.
And it does! It's sweet, tangy, and will encourage even the biggest salad haters to eat their greens! In fact, this is one of the only salad dressings my kids actually like.
Like my Greek Hummus Dressing recipe, this salad dressing is perfect for quick lunches and dinner side salads because it can be whipped up in mere minutes!

Is honey mustard vegan?
You might be wondering how I make honey mustard vegan since honey is not considered vegan. The trick is to use agave syrup, which has an almost identical taste and texture. Maple syrup could also be used, but that will change the flavor somewhat.
How can this be oil-free?
Most store-bought vegan mayo contains oil. To keep this dressing oil-free, you will need to make homemade oil-free mayo.
You can either use silken tofu to make this Vegan Aioli. If you prefer to use cashews as your base, you can follow the instructions for this Vegan Chipotle Mayo, but just leave out the chipotle.
Is this WFPB?
To make this dressing fully WFPB compliant, you would need to use an oil-free mayo, maple syrup instead of agave, and a compliant BBQ sauce.
Ingredients
- vegan mayo or aioli: Either store-bought or homemade. If you use store-bought you might want to add a little garlic powder to the dressing.
- yellow or brown mustard: I prefer brown (but not grainy), but use what you have.
- agave syrup: I use agave because it taste almost exactly like honey. However, maple syrup could also be used.
- barbeque sauce: Whatever you have in the fridge is fine.
*See recipe card for quantities.
How to make
- If you are making the Vegan Mayo from scratch, do that first.
- Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and stir to combine. If you're using this as a dipping sauce, then you're done!
- If you're using this as a salad dressing, stir in a little bit of water, about 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired salad dressing consistency. Serve and enjoy!
How to serve
Serve this delicious Vegan Honey Mustard either as a salad dressing or dipping sauce.
If you're looking for salad inspiration, I created this Country Salad with this dressing specifically in mind.
For dipping, I recommend these Chick-fil-A Style Tofu Nuggets. But this sauce would also pair well with my classic Baked Tofu Nuggets or my Air Fryer Tofu Nuggets.
You could also use this as a dip for raw veggies like carrots and cucumbers slices.
Can I make it ahead?
Definitely! This dressing can be stored for up to a week in the refrigerator.
How to store
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Or freeze for up to 3 months.
