I am a big fan of toast for breakfast and snacks! Not only is toast quick to make, but you can create delicious flavor combinations in mere minutes.
Whether you're breaking out the toaster for breakfast or a snack, toast is one of the simplest yet most satisfying options around. The right mix of healthy carbs, fats, and protein will help keep you full until lunch.
When I make toast for breakfast, I personally like to pair one sweet toast with one savory toast for the sake of variety. Therefore, this post gives you three ideas for savory toast and three ideas for sweet toast, but you can mix and match the ingredients to make your own creations.

Sweet toast ideas
- Cashew butter toast topped with sliced strawberries and vegan chocolate sauce.
- Sweet Almond Ricotta toast topped with blueberries, walnuts, and a drizzle of agave syrup.
- Almond butter toast topped with banana slices, cinnamon, and hemp hearts.
Variations
- Feel to swap out different types of nut butter or use sunflower seed butter to keep it nut free.
- Tofu ricotta or store-bought vegan ricotta can be used in place of the homemade almond ricotta.
- I also love the simplicity of layering nut butter with chia berry jam or apricot jam and hemp seeds.
Savory toast ideas
- Smashed Avocado Toast topped with arugala, sliced tomatoes and vegan bacon bits or diced tempeh bacon.
- Hummus Toast topped with mixed greens, cucumber slices, chopped tomatoes, and Za'atar seasoning (or smoked paprika).
- Savory Almond Ricotta Toast topped with sliced cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
Variations
- Different types of seasonings can really take savory toast to the next level. In addition to those mentioned above, I also like to mix things up with this easy Vegan Parmesan or Everything but the Bagel seasoning.
- Tofu Scramble also makes a great toast topper. You could use this recipe for vegan deviled egg crostini.
- Or add a layer of mashed avocado, then tofu scramble with spinach and tomatoes, and top with vegan bacon bits for a play on a breakfast BLT.
Instructions
These are general instructions for how to assemble any kind of delicious toast.
- Toast your bread.
- Spread on the base layer topping (nut butter, almond ricotta, hummus, smashed avocado, etc).
- Add your fruit or vegetable ingredients (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.)
- Sprinkle or drizzle your garnish (chocolate sauce, agave syrup, cinnamon, bacon bits, seasoning blend, balsamic glaze, etc.)
- Serve right away and enjoy!
How to serve
Serve these delicious vegan toasts as part of a healthy breakfast, a gorgeous vegan brunch, a quick snack, or even a light supper.
I love to pair one savory toast with one sweet toast for variety.
Or you can serve your favorite toast as a side to tofu scramble.
These toppings can also be used to make fun party canapes or crostini that would be a delicious addition to any appetizer spread! (Hard toasts or toasted baguette might hold up better in this case).
FAQs
Just use your favorite gluten-free toast to make these vegan toasts gluten-free.
Several of these toast ideas contain nuts. To keep them nut-free, swap out the nut butter with sunflower-seed butter, or exchange the almond ricotta for tofu ricotta.
Making the toasts too far in advance can lead them to get soggy, but many of the spreads and toppings can be prepped ahead of time and used throughout the week.
If you are thinking of using these topping ideas to make mini toasts or crostini for a party, then I suggest bringing the toast and toppings separately and assembling them at the location.

I grew up eating vegetables for breakfast. These are wonderful ways for anyone to include garden variety into your meal. As a senior, I will be able to have a light supper as well. Thank you. Well done
